  1. Kia Ora Wahine Toa!
yesterday i see your drama “Once were warriors” here in german TV. Would like to say thank for this outstanding role did you play. This film shows me a really powerful “Wahine Toa” with many good “Mara” in your heart and soul. I love you and your people. Best wishes from a stranger in germany! Hui e, haumi e, taiki e………

  2. Hello Rena, I am a student from California and I recently saw your film “Once Were Warriors” and I was absolutely blown away by your beauty and performance. You made the character so real that it was hard to believe you were acting. Living in California, we see a lot of actors but none can compare to you. You deserve much more recognition! I truly wish you the best in your career and admire you greatly.

  3. Hello Rena,
I do hope this finds you and family well. My name is Jaki and I am currently in New Mexico. Our birthdays are only 10 days apart. July 12 here for me.I saw Once were warriors for the first time in 1996 I believe. I was about 12 years old. I was living in a foster home taking care of my self for the past year. No contact whatsoever with my mother. The movie hit me so hard that I watched it at least once every day for at least 6 months. I do agree with you on the impact of the movie. With all my heart I believe there will never be a movie with such an impact as Once Were Warriors. It was a great story to begin with HOWEVER, It takes great story tellers to bring it to its full potential. I have always thought you were beautiful and I agree ith the casting director. YOU ARE BETH HEKE. The whole cast could not have been chosen better and even with all of the Top Names in acting that you hear everyday, NONE of them, not a single actress in Hollywood, could ever fill your shoes in that role. And in all the dramas I have seen, not even The Color Purple, (one of my faves as well) can touch the heart shreading scene of Gracie’s death. Girl, that has to be the best dramatic scene in history of all possible dramas. You couldnt have done better even if it had really happened. You were amazing and Temuera’s supporting role just, OMG I cant find the words to describe it. When you are 12 and alone in the world, there is no telling what could happen or how I could have turned out. I watched Once were warriors so much for this simple reason. A caring mother like you portrayed was what I wanted. The personalities of the characters helped me come to know what kind of person I wanted to be and what I didnt want to be. And it worked. I even learned to keep my mouth shut in front of abusive men before any blood was shed as well. Everyone still has their nut shell to break through no matter what becomes of us. Jake Heke reminds me 100% of my real father who I met at age 13. Thanks to your excellent acting skills, you helped me keep my spirit safe from him. Thank you for the strength to stay whole no matter what. Now I watch the movie at least once a week to two weeks just because it is that Awsome. I have already learned what I can from it. I just got the chance to read your bio and the troubles you have went through as well. Everything that comes our way, whether it be good or bad, shapes us for the future and it is up to us to shape for better or for worse. Thank you for showing me that I want shape for the better, ALWAYS. I have my own children now, a son who is 3 and a daughter due in Janurary. So far with the person I have become, I honestly have a surprisingly WELL behaved 3 year old and I have been a single mother up till about 7 months ago. I have been in the community theater and I love being on stage whether it is acting or concert. My fiance is from Hollywood, and hopes to return no sooner than a year or so after the baby is born. He is a writer, model, actor. He says he thinks I could make it on stage. I know I can. I feel so free on stage. Free not to be myself and all my life worrys dont matter while I am acting. Maybe we will cross paths because I would hold it a great HONOR to work with some one as talented and beautiful as you. Sorry for the book, but you have impacted my life enormously through one lead role. I wish you all the Luck in the world and you are in my prayers.
    Once again, Thank you.
