hello to you. I just had to tell you how much I love your work. I don’t know how you feel about your movie “Once were warriors” but I LOVE that movie. I am a huge movie buff and there have been very few movies that entrap me with the emotion you put into that movie especially the death scene of Grace, but each and every time I can feel the pain you gave in the movie. I cry with your character and feel the strength that came out of the pain. I have seen that movie at least 15 or 20 times. Everytime it is on tv or cable I HAVE to watch it. I love the transition the family memebers gain and the fall of father. I finally found your site and just had to let you know how I felt. The movie had to take an emotional toll on you. I hate to sound so cliche but keep up the good work. I love the Moari people and the traditions. It is something I miss as an American. I am such a make up of european nations I have bunched them into celts. Most of them have some connection to that ancestory. I live in a small town in Iowa so I can’t see too many of your films unless they are on tv or cable. Thank you for your talent and be proud of yourself for everything you do. If it were up to me I would have given you an Oscar for that performance. Again thank you!!
Sincerely,
Connie Smith

Greetings and Hello to you, Miss Owen
Just wanted to let you know how much enjoy your work and your beautiful country.
I am not sure if you are aware of this story but I felt since you are Maori you would like to know about it.
Recently (July 2,2007) a Maori soldeir recevied the Victoria Cross-he is the 1st man to receive such an honor from your country since 1943.
The last gentleman to receive the VC was also Maori.
You did a movie several years ago called “Once Were Warriors”
Judging from what Corporal Bill Henry Apiata from the Nga Puhi iwi did in Afghanistan to save his friend’s life
the MAORI STILL are warriors.
I saw you first in Rapa Nui, then in Once Were Warriors. I could not believe how incredible you were in the role of Beth. It felt like we were watching her life through hidden cameras – you were so believable and real!!
You have an incredible talent!! I love movies and of ALL the films (old and new) I’ve ever seen – I have never been so impressed by an actor’s performance in a role!! You are amazing!!
Thank you for bringing that slice of life alive. God Bless you and keep you and your family and best wishes –
A fan – Katherine from Texas
You would not believe how very much you are liked here in Hawaii… You’re a beautiful person with loads of talent as an actress… Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
thank you Rena! You were wonderful to me at C4 – I had lost my camera and after 3 hours I finally was reunited with it when a SW fan turned it in. You autograph the photo and very sweetly agreed to a photo with me…and then I was so stoked I packed up and started to leave – you called me by my name to tell me I had forgotten the autographed photo! – I have to deal with me everyday but you were fantastic to see, talk to – what a wonderful voice you have.
thanks again..so much!
Linda Pellerito

Hi Rena! It’s been a while since the last time we met, hope you remember me, i was the one that helped you out at the autograph area @ the SCI-FI convention in Mexico City a couple of years ago, hope to see you again at Celebration IV, take care and best wishes from Mexico!
