Hi lovely Rena,
I really enjoyed your site. Hope all is well with you. God Bless you and yours, Alofa Tele, Lydia (Dan’s sister)
Seeing your movie “Once Were Warriors” not only reminds me of my childhood; growing up with fear…but it reminds me of my late brother…he is the one that told me about this movie and how powerful it was. We are going to watch it as part of “Sobriety Awareness Month”. I am an Inupiaq Eskimo, from Barrow, Alaska…I want to thank you for your courage in making this movie. It helped me in a lot of ways.

It was great meating you at the Chiller Theatre Convention in NJ a few years back. The next Chiller convention is in may. Hope you can make it! http://www.chillertheatre.com
I HAVE always loved your character in “Once were warriors”. my mother works in a domestic violence shelter and she sees first hand what domestic violence causes. The women who see this movie see themselves and see that there is hope for them. they can recognize there situation and you may not know it, but you help these women to become strong in their lives. Even across other side of the world, you have made a huge difference in many womens’ lives. thank you very much for your bravery.

We had some fun times–I still have the spatula that you autographed “Wahine Toa” & “Use only for beer” in my kitchen. Mahina’s back in Rapa Nui but next time you’re in Honolulu, drop me an email and we can do Kincaids at Ward Warehouse where you can pretend to be Sistah Robi Kahakalau again :)(lol) You better learn some of her songs. Congratulations on all of your success!

Rena:
You are a fantastic actress and your performance in Once were Warriors was simply astonishing. Actually,I’ve just finished watching “Broken Hearted” for the first time and you looked 10 times more beautiful.
I am married to a Kiwi and I also visited your beautiful country about 11 years ago.The Maori people are very spiritual, rich in culture and as a Carribean-American(Haiti)I felt the connection immediately. I was also touched when the Maori Guide chose me to represent my tour bus at a traditional Maori ceremony and a Hangi during my visit. It was an incredible experience!I will never forget it.
You are a great artist and I enjoy your work very very much.
Love,
Leslie
