Guestbook Entry

  1. After re-discovering Once Were Warriors and just having seen it’s follow-up What Becomes of the Broken Hearted, I watched an interview with yourself on Youtube.

Your project to get the film Behind the Tattoed Face looks an admirable venture, and I very much hope it is realised.

Meanwhile, I will search out the book – all the best from the UK !

  2. Just wanted to say ‘Hello’ from the Smith Family. Hope all is well, recovered from winning the World Cup?????grrrr
Love from our family & blessings…

  3. I think your performance in Once Were Warriors was one of the most overlooked in movie history. You deserved the Oscar (not the nomination). A truely remarkable, gut-wrentching film about a culture not many know about, but your performance could draw anyone to completelty relate to the Maori experience.

  4. Rena .Just read you are “filming’ “Behind the Tattoed Face”.This one of my fav NZ books and I am really looking forward to the movie.PS Would love to see a movie about the greatest migration in NZ history ie When Ngati Toa Rangatira,(and Ngati Raukawa,Ngati Mutunga,NgatiTama and te Ati Awa)came from Kawhia to Kapiti Island.
Also when Te Puoho from Ngati Tama travelled down the westcoast of the south isaland and fought Kai Tahu. There is a monument near Mataura that says. Where the North fought the south and the south won.

  5. Hi Rena,
I would like you to know how much amazed I am by such a strong a powerful performance by you in Once Were Warriors. I have watched this movie after 7 years from its release date. I absolutely loved your work as an artist.
You truly are a born actor.

  6. Just rewatched Once Were Warriors and was again struck by the grit and power of the film and your performance. Absolutely outstanding.

I have wondered over the years if Keri Hume’s “The Bone People” would lend itself to the screen and hope, if someone ever thinks it would, that you are approached for it.

  7. Hey Rena! Was going thru some old photo’s of Jades’ (You guys worked together on Rapanui)& came across heaps of you guys – Tania, Lawrence, Karaitiana & the mob. So thought I’d try & look you up & here you are. Lookin’ good girl!! So just dropping in to say hi. Jade remembers those days with fond affection & plenty of stories. Lol!!
